Health Update: Coronavirus in Japan as of 2/28/2020

As many have heard, the Government of Japan has recently recommended that all elementary, middle, and high schools in Japan close during March to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

For now, both AKP and Doshisha University continue to remain open, and alternate arrangements have been made for upcoming field trips. Home institutions, emergency contacts, and AKP campus representatives have been provided more information regarding these arrangements in an email sent on Friday, February 28.

March is traditionally spring break for Doshisha, and AKP usually operates during this break even when there are no other classes. As of yesterday in Japan, Doshisha has only cancelled or postponed the majority of its large gatherings throughout the month of March. We are closely following Doshisha’s operating status decisions and are in the process of preparing contingencies in the event of either a campus or program closure.

All of us at AKP greatly appreciate your patience as we continue to adjust and prepare our plan of action in the midst of such rapid changes. We know that this has been a stressful time for our community, and we are working hard to make decisions that balance our commitment to the students’ experience as well as their health and safety.
